Manic Monday #14 - A New Addition

Well...it's certainly been manic here.  Sorry I haven't posted in awhile.  To make up for it, I'm about to overwhelm you with cuteness.  So, a few months ago, we got two Nigerian Dwarf goats.  They were a good deal and our hope was that we could get our family's milk from them.  With one, Belle, being pregnant, our thought was that we could increase our herd, hoping for at least 1 or 2 does, AND have milk sooner rather than later.  Well, over the last month I've looked at her bum more than I care to admit, impatiently waiting for the telltale signs that she was in labor.  I'd come in and say "Kids, I bet we will wake up to babies in the morning, because...." while naming some vague sign of labor. (My kids would probably be correct in their guesstimate of around 100 times.)  But yesterday, it was really obvious.  She was bleating up a storm in the late afternoon.  By 7 o'clock she was yelling....loudly.  And by 8:11pm, her beautiful buckling was born, with a teeny tiny help from Stretch.  And then the show was over.  Of course, the whole family sat out in the greenhouse/goat pen for over an hour waiting impatiently for the rest to show up and oohing and aaahing over the little one.  But then nothing.  While he is absolutely adorable, I'm hoping we can find a home for him, because, quite honestly, I'm not sure we'll be able to butcher our one and only kid! (However, the boys might not have as much of a hard time of it since the buckling was not even dry and they were already talking about goat meat!)  So, we are hoping to breed Jackie, the other goat, soon and hopefully have better luck.  In the meantime, I'll keep you posted on how I'm going to get a cantankerous goat that won't let me come near her to milk and any other fun goat antics.  Without further ado....here's the cuteness overload!!!
Right after he was born...sorry it was dark and blurry!

Tucker named him slingshot because of his white markings.

Belle is such a good mama...hopefully she'll let me milk her!!

Getting ready for a nap in the sun.

Complete and unbelievable cuteness!!!

Until next time, have a manic one!
